Mayor salutes BMW of Fairfield’s long-term commitment to the city
Mayor Harry Price called the deal with BMW a “game-changer,” which he said he believes will help revive the auto mall after the demise of the bulk of the Momentum Auto Group in 2018 over financial issues. It also offers much-needed sales tax support to city coffers and highlights a new partnership with a minority-led company.
“They represent the very best in the auto industry,” Price said. “It makes me very pleased to have both Mercedes(-Benz) and BMW. They’ve made a long-term investment with the city of Fairfield.”
Vice Mayor Rick Vaccaro presented a proclamation from the city to BMW of Fairfield owner Hal Logan. Lois Cross also offered one from Rep. John Garamendi.
The fate of the auto dealerships are important to the city because of the tax revenue they generate. Automobile dealerships generate a lot of sales tax that goes into the city’s general fund, which traditionally pays for the bulk of such services as police and fire protection, parks and recreation programs and the costs of general city government.
BMW of Fairfield took up temporary residence in July in the former Infinity and Volkswagen dealership, down the street at the auto mall from its new location. Logan said he believes cars could be sold at the new location within 12 months. TEAMWRKX Construction is heading up the project.
“We are building a state-of-the-art facility that we think everybody in the city will be happy with,” Logan said. “The city has been a great partner, easy to work with and very cooperative. Fairfield is an ideal location with the access to the freeway and its proximity to the Bay Area and Sacramento. We’re very happy to be here.”
Logan said there will be 24 bays for auto service in the facility. Then there will be the long line of German luxury vehicles. His son, Justin LeGrand-Logan, is the general manager.
“They’ve been great to work with and BMW takes the auto mall up another level,” Vaccaro said. “Having minority ownership is also big. It’s so important to recognize the importance of that.”
Hal Logan has served as the chief executive officer of BuyBook Technologies Inc., which was later acquired by Autotrader.com Inc, a subsidiary of Cox Automotive Inc. Prior to his role at BuyBook, Logan worked at Manheim Inc., an automobile auction company, where he served in a variety of roles, including senior vice president of strategic planning and chief executive officer of the company’s technology subsidiary.
Logan serves and has previously served on the board of directors of multiple private companies in the automotive and technology industries. He received a bachelor of arts in economics from Harvard University and a master of business administration from Stanford University.
Justin LeGrand-Logan has been in the automotive industry throughout his adult life, from being a salesman at Ford to general sales manager at Mercedes-Benz, to his current role as general manager at BMW of Fairfield.
“I think this is very important to see how diversity is embraced in Solano County,” said Tamuri LeAnne Richardson, president of the Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce. “This is a great day for the county. Now a Black child who might consider owning a car dealership can come here and see himself represented and see that it not only is a possibility, it’s also a reality.”
